What to Wear

Comfortable walking shoes are essential - you will be on your feet for over two hours|Dress in layers, as it's always windier and can feel several degrees cooler on the bridge than at street level|Bring sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen, as there is no shade on the bridge|In winter, a warm hat, gloves, and a windproof jacket are non-negotiable.

Planning

Historical Context

Opened on May 24, 1883, the Brooklyn Bridge was a marvel of 19th-century engineering. It took 14 years to build, cost over $15 million (the equivalent of over $400 million today), and tragically, claimed the lives of at least 20 workers. Its construction, led by John A. Roebling and his son Washington Roebling, united the then-separate cities of New York and Brooklyn and instantly became a symbol of American ingenuity.

Photography Tips

  • Use a wide-angle lens to capture the grand scale of the skyline and the bridge
  • Golden hour (the first hour after sunrise and the last hour before sunset) provides the most dramatic lighting
  • Focus on details: the texture of the wooden planks, the patterns of the cables, the granite blocks of the towers
  • Try a low angle to make the Gothic arches appear even more monumental.

Insider Tips

  • Start your walk from the Brooklyn side to face the Manhattan skyline the entire time – the view is unbeatable
  • Go as early in the morning as possible (before 9 AM) to have parts of the bridge almost to yourself
  • After your tour, take the NYC Ferry from DUMBO back to Manhattan for a beautiful and affordable cruise
  • Watch the cyclists! They move fast and the bike lane is directly adjacent to the pedestrian path.

Our Partners

  • We are proud to partner with globally recognized and trusted tour platforms like GetYourGuide and Viator to bring you a curated selection of the highest-rated Brooklyn Bridge experiences.

Fun Facts

  • The Brooklyn Bridge was the first steel-wire suspension bridge in the world.
  • When it opened, it was the longest suspension bridge, nearly 50% longer than any previously built.
  • A week after opening, a rumor that the bridge was collapsing caused a stampede that killed 12 people. To prove its stability, P. T. Barnum famously led 21 elephants across the bridge in 1884.

Cancellation Policy

Most of our tour partners offer a flexible cancellation policy, typically allowing a full refund if you cancel up to 24 hours before the tour's start time. Always verify the specific cancellation policy for the tour you select during the checkout process.

The Only Way to See the Bridge!

Don't just walk it, tour it! Our guide, Sarah, was a fountain of knowledge. I learned so much about the history and engineering that I would have completely missed on my own. The views are, of course, spectacular. Booking was simple and the e-ticket worked perfectly.

Bellissimo! A must-do in NYC.

The view from the bridge is something I will never forget. Walking from Brooklyn to Manhattan is the right way to do it. The tour was well-paced, not too fast. My only small complaint is that it was very crowded, but that is New York! I'm glad we booked a tour to have a guide navigate the chaos.

Informative and Breathtaking.

This was a highlight of my trip. The guide shared fascinating stories and pointed out the best angles for photos. Ending the tour in DUMBO was perfect for grabbing a coffee and enjoying the park. Using this site to compare and book was very convenient.

Great Tour, Great Views.

A solid tour experience. The check-in was easy, the guide was professional. The bridge itself is the star of the show. It's a busy place, so having a guide lead the way was helpful. Would recommend for any first-time visitor to NYC.

An iconic walk made even better

I'd walked the bridge before on my own, but the guided tour added so much depth. Understanding the incredible story behind its construction made me appreciate it on a whole new level. Our guide was brilliant. Booking through this platform was seamless.

Incrível! Vista de Cartão Postal.

The views are just as amazing as you see in the movies. Our guide was fantastic and gave us lots of time for photos. It was very hot, so bring water! A perfect way to spend a morning in New York. The DUMBO part of the tour was a great bonus.

Good tour, very crowded path.

The tour itself was very good, with an interesting guide. The bridge path is very narrow and shared with many people and fast bicycles, which can be a bit stressful. But the information and the views were worth it. It was easy to find the meeting point.
